Covid update: Downward trend continues with 230 new cases, but 5 more deaths

The Canary Islands have started the second half of August maintaining the downward trend in new cases detected in the last two weeks, adding 230 new cases today, which is 154 less than last Monday. There are now 15,880 active cases in the islands, 105 are admitted to ICU, 406 are admitted to hospital wards, and 15,367 are under home treatment. The good news is that the Accumulated Incidence rates continue to decline and the IA7 now stands at 127.16 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the IA14 at 327.76.

The islands have also registered another five Covid related deaths in the last 24 hours, four in Tenerife and one in Gran Canaria, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 882 fatalities. The deceased in Tenerife are a 78-year-old woman and three men aged 98, 78 and 54 years old, and the victim from Gran Canaria is a 60-year-old woman. All of them suffered from previous pathologies and were already hospitalised.

By islands, Gran Canaria registers the highest number of new infections today with 115 with  6,092 still active after adding 76 discharges. Tenerife adds 78 cases in the last 24 hours with 9,052 still active and is the island with 57% of the active cases of the entire archipelago.

Lanzarote adds another 10 cases of which 187 are active, Fuerteventura has 16 new cases with 490 still active (it is the island with the third most active cases). La Palma adds eight cases today due to an outbreak in its main hospital and now has 43 are still active after adding five discharges. El Hierro added one new case today and La Gomera two cases with one discharge.
