Covid update: 690 new cases, 3 deaths and 10 more admitted to hospital today

The latest data from the Ministry of Health is the data that will be presented to the Governing Council by the Public Health Committee as part of their review of the alert levels for the islands this afternoon. The upward trend is continuing in the Canary Islands with a new record of 690 new cases, but it is not now just Tenerife that is seeing a sharp increase.

Incidence rates over 7 days are now over 100 in all of the islands except Lanzarote, and Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria have IA14’s over 200as the archipelago is producing data not seen before during the pandemic.

The Governing Council are reviewing the actual indicators and parameters that dictate the alert levels as well today, however, 391 new cases in Tenerife and 231 in Gran Canaria will not help their decisions.

There have also been three Covid related deaths in the islands today, two in Tenerife and one in Gran Canaria, and 10 more people admitted to hospital wards and ICU as the two main hospitals in the capital islands are starting to feel the pressure of the pandemic again.
