Covid update: 529 new cases and 5 more deaths, 45 deaths so far in August

The latest data from the Ministry of Health shows a stabilising once again in the number of new cases with 529 reported today, of which 252 are in Tenerife, 223 are in Gran Canaria, 26 in Lanzarote, 23 in Fuerteventura, 3 in La Palma, and 1 each in La Gomera and El Hierro.

There have also been five more Covid related deaths with 3 in Tenerife (2 in Santa Cruz and 1 in La Laguna) and 2 in La Palma. This means that 45 people of all ages have died this month from Covid, with 87% of them being unvaccinated, and a total of 869 lives lost since the start of the pandemic.

Incidence rates are continuing to go down with the IA7 for the islands now at 165.77, however, the IA14 is taking longer to decrease and is now at 406.17. The good news is that the R rate of contagion has continued to stay below 1.00 at 0.90, a good sign that the spread is getting under control.

More good news, the SCS have confirmed that they have now reached 80% of the target population over the age of 12 with their first jab against Covid, and 66.20% have been fully vaccinated. The mass vaccination centres in Tenerife and Gran Canaria continue to be open for anyone of any age over 12 to go for a vaccine without an appointment this weekend.
