Covid update: 105 new cases and 3rd day with no deaths in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands continue to stabilise the spread of the coronavirus with 105 new cases reported today, of which 42 are in Gran Canaria, 40 are in Tenerife, 12 in Fuerteventura, and 11 are in Lanzarote. The downward trend of the epidemiological data is continuing with 369 medical discharges today, and for the third day running, no Covid related deaths have been reported.

Although every week is important, this week could se Tenerife drop to alert level 2 next Thursday, as the incidence rates for the island are now at medium risk (33.17 over 7 days and 86.69 over 14 days) and hospitalisations continue to decrease.

This week will also see the next review for travel from the UK with the whole of Spain, including the Canary Islands, currently on the amber list. Previously only the Balearic Islands have been on the green list, but the Canaries now have the second lowest data in the whole of Spain, and if the UK continues to review the islands separately to the mainland, there is every chance the archipelago could go green.

At the moment the IA7 for the islands is 35.48 and the IA14 is 83.78 and they are continuing to go down. Even though many people are choosing to travel because they are fully vaccinated so they don’t need to quarantine, the green list opens up travel to all.
