Covid update: 142 new cases and one death in the Canary Islands

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has reported of 142 new cases of coronavirus today, with a drop in active cases to 1,557 due to 219 people being medically discharged. There are currently 26 Covid patients admitted to ICU, 179 in wards, and 1,352 in home isolation. They have also reported of one death of a 57-year-old woman in Tenerife, linked to a family outbreak.

Yet again incidence rates have risen for the archipelago with the IA7 at 38.56 and the IA14 at 72.24 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Tenerife now has the highest rates of all the islands having surpassed Lanzarote, with an IA7 of 53.09 and IA14 of 101.23 cases, even though active cases have dropped below 1,000 on the island.

Of the new cases, 93 have been detected in Tenerife, 32 in Gran Canaria, 14 in Lanzarote, 3 in Fuerteventura, and none in the rest of the islands. To date, a total of 1,163,969 PCR tests have been carried out in the Islands, of which 2,323 correspond to yesterday.
