Covid update: New upturn in infections, 329 new cases and four deaths

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has registered 329 new infections of coronavirus and four Covid related deaths, three in Tenerife and one in Gran Canaria, in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data released this afternoon.

By islands, Tenerife has registered the most with 166 new positives, 149 are in Gran Canaria, six in Lanzarote, six in Fuerteventura and two in La Palma.

Ministry of Health figures also show that the Canary Islands currently have 40 teachers and 373 students that have tested positive for Covid-19. Since the beginning of the school year, the percentages of isolated groups in the Archipelago have ranged between 0.02% and 0.4% of the total number of teachers (32,000) and students (335,000).

The SCS have informed that 12,600 people have been vaccinated after rearranging schedules due to use of the AstraZeneca vaccine. It was being administered to the population between 60 and 65 years old and now it is extended to 69 years as they are suspending use in the under 60’s. In total, 367,425 doses of vaccines have been administered in the Canary Islands, which are 258,677 from Pfizer, 21,953 from Moderna and 86,795 from AstraZeneca.
