Covid update: Tenerife and Gran Canaria have 95% of todays new cases

The archipelago has registers more than two hundred new cases of coronavirus for the third consecutive day by adding 236 infections in the last 24 hours, and the islands have exceeded the barrier of 48,000 accumulated cases, reaching 48,175 since the pandemic began.

One Covid related death has been registered in Tenerife today, raising the total number of victims to 684. The islands currently have 4,503 active cases, just 39 less than yesterday, of which 83 are admitted to Intensive Care (six more than yesterday), 312 are admitted to the hospital ward (five more than yesterday) and 4,108 are under treatment in their homes.

By islands, Gran Canaria had the most new cases again with 113 which represents 48% of the total, and its accumulated total has now passed 20,000 infections by reaching 20,018. Tenerife had 111 new cases, and its accumulated increases to 20,339. These two islands had 95% of today’s new cases between them.

In the other islands, Fuerteventura is still seeing a decline in new cases with 9, and Lanzarote registered just 1. There was also 1 in La Palma, and 1 new one in El Hierro meaning they are no longer Covid free. La Gomera had no new cases today.
