Covid update: Tenerife has over 90 new infections again today

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has notified of 154 new infections of coronavirus today, taking the total number of people infected to 53,421 since the pandemic began and the first case in Spain was notified of in la Gomera at the end of January 2020, and four more Covid related deaths, 3 in Gran Canaria and 1 in Tenerife, taking the total to 736.

Today there are 3,038 cases still active, of which 69 are admitted to ICU and 259 remain hospitalized in wards, with 2,710 in home isolation, thanks to 328 people being medically discharged.

Tenerife is once again the island that reports the most new cases with 95 (62%), followed by Gran Canaria that adds 35 Covid patients, Lanzarote reports 19, Fuerteventura 3, El Hierro and La Palma both have 1 new case. La Gomera once again has no new cases and just one active case on the island.

The Canary Islands now has the 4th lowest incidence rate over 14 days (IA14) in the whole of Spain. The region with the lowest is Valencia with 46.57, followed by the Balearic Islands with 63.02, in third is Murcia with 67.18, and the Canary Islands with 95.89 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The two highest are Madrid with an IA14 of 397.76 and the Basque Country, in the north of Spain where Bilbao is, with an IA14 of 515.36.
