Covid update: Light at the end of the tunnel as hospital pressure is easing

The downward trend of the data is continuing in the Canary Islands, and the two stats that were the most concerning during the 5th wave, hospital pressure and Covid related deaths, are now finally reducing drastically as well. A month ago there were 356 Covid patients in hospital wards, now that figure has dropped by over 70% to 105 and ICU occupancy has dropped by over 50% to 32, and at the same time, the mortality rate has reduced after August saw a huge spike in Covid deaths.

There have only been 47 new cases reported today against 219 medical discharges meaning that there are only now 1,086 active cases in all of the Canary Islands. The incidence rates have continued to decrease, with the IA7 for the islands at 21.46 and the IA14 at 48.62, the good news being it has dropped below 50.

Of the new cases today, 21 are in Gran Canaria, 18 are in Tenerife, there are 8 in Lanzarote, and none in any of the other islands. Noticeable drops in the number of active cases are in parts of the south of Tenerife, not Arona or Adeje yet which still have 86 and 60 active cases, but there are now only 3 in Granadilla, 1 in San Miguel, 1 in Guia De Isora, and 1 in Santiago Del Teide.
