The latest data from the Ministry of Health reports of 79 new cases of coronavirus detected in the Canary Islands today, with 50% (40) cases in Tenerife, 22 in Gran Canaria, 11 in Lanzarote, 5 in Fuerteventura, 1 in La Palma, and none in La Gomera or El Hierro. They have also confirmed one Covid related death in Tenerife, meaning that 989 people have died from the virus in the archipelago.
The epidemiological data is still showing signs of stability with now only 1,284 active cases in the islands of which 130 are in wards, 32 are in ICU, and 1.096 are in home isolation. Another strong positive is the positivity rate of PCR tests, which need to be below 4.5%, and currently stand at 1.85% with the R rate of 0.91 meaning that someone who has Covid passes it on to less than one person on average.
