Covid update: 7-day incidence rate is now below 50 in the Canary Islands

Covid update: 7-day incidence rate is now below 50 in the Canary Islands

The lowest number of daily Covid cases for over three months sees Gran Canaria with 66 new cases today, Tenerife with 44, Fuerteventura with 15, Lanzarote with 6, and none in the rest of the islands, for a total of 131 new infections. The Ministry of Health has also reported two more Covid related deaths in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

There are two huge pieces of good news in today’s data, firstly that the 7-day incidence rate for the islands is now at 47.34 and is below the magic 50 to be classed as a safe destination, and the 14-day rate is heading in the same direction too.

Secondly, that the SCS has informed that 60% of young people between the ages of 12 and 19 are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19, and in fact this is a higher percentage than those in their 20s and 30s who are now the target age groups to have be inoculated.

On this note, the Vacuna Bus has been by Las Vistas beach in Los Cristianos today so that people with no appointment can just go along and be vaccinated, and tomorrow they are in Playa San Juan in Tenerife, and at Arinaga beach in Aguimes in Gran Canaria.
