The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated a yellow weather warning for today (Wednesday) in all of the Canary Islands due to strong gusts of wind, and on two of them also due to adverse sea conditions meaning red flags on beaches in those islands.
The yellow warning for strong winds has been activated because gusts in excess of 70 kilometres per hour are expected in the entire island of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria (except the northern slope), Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro, and the summits of La Palma.
Currently, the warning for adverse sea conditions only affects Lanzarote and La Gomera, where big waves, strong swell, and strong currents are expected making it dangerous to bathe or swim in these areas.
At the moment these warnings are just for today but they are expected to be extended into Easter.
