A woman has been hurt after falling into a four-metre deep hole while walking along the HI-30 road in Las Barranqueras, in El Hierro, as reported by the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The accident occurred just after 10:00pm on Friday night when emergency services received an alert stating that a woman had accidentally fallen and required medical assistance.
Officers from the Guardia Civil were the first to arrive at the scene, where they located and rescued the woman before transferring her to medical personnel.
After assessment by SUC paramedics, she was found to have suffered multiple ‘moderate’ injuries and was taken to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe by ambulance for further treatment.
The Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident and has begun compiling official reports. Authorities have yet to clarify whether the hole was due to roadworks, erosion, or other structural damage.
