The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has deactivated the alert for extreme temperatures in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and the western islands (La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro).
Temperatures reached highs of almost 40°C as expected in various parts of Gran Canaria, but the island had two of the highest values recorded in all of Spain on Sunday morning.
Agüimes saw a high of 36.4°C at 9am and Agaete had 34.4°C at 6.30 in the morning!
The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies remind that although the heatwave has passed, the Archipelago remains in a pre-alert situation for high temperatures and forest fires even though a decrease will be seen today.
