VIDEO: More than 120 immigrants have arrived in boats to Tenerife and Gran Canaria

Maritime Rescue have reported that they have intercepted two boats today (Thursday) with more than 120 irregular immigrants on board in waters near Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

The first cayuco was spotted at around 8am near Las Galletas in the south of Tenerife about 5 miles from the coast, with 60 people in it. Maritime rescue boat the Salvamar Menkalinan was in charge of transferring its occupants to the port of Los Cristianos, where medical personnel and the Red Cross met, assessed, and treated them on the dock.

Three people were treated on site for mild dehydration but none of them needed to go to hospital for any further treatment.

The second one was spotted by a fishing boat off the south of Gran Canaria at just after 8am, with 61 sub-Saharan Africans on board, all in apparent good health. It was intercepted by the Salvamar Macondo and transferred to the Arguineguín dock, where two people were transferred to hospital with minor injuries, according to a report from the emergency services.
