The search operation launched yesterday, Sunday, along the coast of San Juan de la Rambla in Tenerife has ended in tragedy. Emergency teams have confirmed that they have recovered the body of the person who was being intensively searched for near Charco de La Laja and Punta de Marrero.
The alert was raised on Sunday morning, prompting a significant mobilisation of emergency resources along Tenerife’s north coast.
The initial operation, led by Emergency Search and Rescue teams and its GES helicopter, was later reinforced by a Guardia Civil helicopter, which played a crucial role in scanning the rugged cliffs and shoreline.
Dangerous coastal conditions
Authorities have not yet released details regarding the identity of the victim or the circumstances of the incident. However, the Canary Islands remain under pre-alert for coastal hazards, with strong waves and powerful currents, including along Tenerife’s northern coastline.
These conditions frequently pose severe risks during adverse weather episodes and have resulted in several people losing the life over the last few weeks.
Residents and visitors are urged to exercise extreme caution near the shoreline until conditions improve, and observe red flags and respect the power of the ocean.
