The Canary Islands are preparing for a spell of adverse weather as the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) forecasts cooler temperatures, cloudy skies and rain in the northern regions of the more mountainous islands today, Tuesday.
The adverse weather conditions have prompted a pre-alert across the entire Canary Islands archipelago. Residents and visitors are urged to take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to strong winds and heavy seas.
The islands will experience moderate to strong northeasterly winds, with the southeastern and northwestern extremes of the mountainous regions facing occasional very strong gusts.
Mariners are advised to exercise caution as the seas will become increasingly rough. Northerly or northwesterly swells of 2 to 3 metres are expected to rise to 3 to 4 metres in the northern areas. In the south and southwestern coastal regions, conditions will be calmer with variable winds and rippled seas.
