The Canary Islands are bracing for another day of intense heat and hazy skies this Tuesday, with the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) forecasting temperatures that could climb as high as 36°C in several mid-altitude inland areas, particularly on the southern and western slopes of Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

A light haze at altitude is expected to persist throughout the day, adding to the oppressive conditions already being felt across the archipelago.

Nighttime temperatures will remain uncomfortably warm, with much of the region not dipping below 24°C and some areas staying above 26°C. This prolonged heat has triggered official weather alerts, with authorities maintaining a forest fire risk warning across five islands, including Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and Gran Canaria. The warning applies especially to areas situated above 400 metres in elevation.

Conditions across the islands will range from clear to partly cloudy skies, with some cloud cover expected along the northern coasts during the early morning and late evening. Trade winds will continue to blow from the north and northeast, sometimes intensifying on the southeast and northwest slopes, while breezes will be more common on the southwest-facing sides of the mountainous islands.

At sea, the weather remains challenging, with winds reaching force 4 to 6 from the north and northeast. These will bring rough or strong swells, accompanied by a northerly swell of between one and two metres.

LANZAROTE:
On Lanzarote, skies will be mostly clear, although the north of the island may see some cloud cover during the early and late hours of the day. A light haze will hang over higher elevations, while maximum temperatures inland may reach 30°C. Winds will shift from the north later in the day and decrease slightly. Temperatures are expected to range from 22°C to 30°C.

FUERTEVENTURA:
Fuerteventura will also enjoy mostly clear skies, with some cloud in the west early and late in the day. A haze will be present at altitude, and while temperatures are expected to remain stable, some inland areas could see a slight dip. Maximums may still exceed 30°C in the southeast. Trade winds may blow with occasional strength, especially in exposed areas. Temperatures will hover between 22°C and 28°C.

GRAN CANARIA:
Gran Canaria is expected to be clear with some cloudy intervals in northern lowland areas. A light haze will be present on the peaks. Temperatures inland and along the eastern coast may drop slightly, but in basins such as Tejeda and Tirajana, as well as other south- and west-facing midland regions, temperatures could exceed 36°C. The night will remain particularly warm, with minimum temperatures staying above 26°C. The trade wind will be strong on some slopes, with southwesterly breezes prevailing elsewhere. Temperatures will range from 22°C to 26°C.

TENERIFE:
Tenerife will see partly cloudy to clear skies, with northern lowlands experiencing some cloudy intervals in the early and late hours. Light haze is forecast for the peaks, and temperatures may reach up to 34°C in the midlands of the east, south, and west. Nighttime lows are not expected to fall below 24°C in many areas. Winds will be moderate to strong in places, particularly on the eastern and far northwestern slopes. On the central peaks, light winds of variable direction are expected, with a westerly component becoming more dominant in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 23°C to 30°C.

With high temperatures, dry conditions, and gusty winds creating a dangerous combination, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. Residents and visitors alike are advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water, and avoid any actions that could trigger a fire. All signs of smoke or fire should be reported immediately to the emergency services by calling 112.
