If you're planning a last-minute getaway to the Canary Islands this August, you may be out of luck, especially if you're hoping to stay in a coastal holiday rental. According to data from Rentalia, the holiday division of property website Idealista, around 75% of tourist apartments, houses, and holiday homes across the islands are already booked for the whole of August.

The figures highlight strong demand in the archipelago’s key destinations, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura, where the vast majority of short-term rentals are located near the coast.

Lanzarote tops the list, with a staggering 89% of available holiday rentals already reserved for next month. That means just one in ten properties listed for short-term holiday stays on the island remains available.

Gran Canaria and Tenerife also show high levels of occupancy, with 76% and 75.2% of properties booked respectively, on par with last year’s strong figures. Even Fuerteventura, the only island to record a slight drop in bookings compared to 2024, still has 78% of its listings reserved for August.

The growing popularity of the Canaries as a summer destination is even more apparent when compared to national trends. While overall reservations across Spain have dipped slightly, Tenerife’s coast has seen one of the biggest year-on-year jumps, up from 69% in August 2024 to over 75% this year. Gran Canaria has also seen a rise, climbing from 71.9% to 75.9%. Only Alicante, on the Spanish mainland, recorded a higher increase.

These figures suggest that holidaymakers, both international visitors and residents of Spain, are eager to secure prime beachside accommodation well in advance this summer.
