Thousands of pink rubber ducks to race in Tenerife for Breast Cancer awareness

On 20th March, the Carrera por la Vida Foundation (Walk For Life) will host an unprecedented event in Spain when thousands of pink rubber ducks will take part in a race at Siam Park to raise money for breast cancer research and support.

The aim is to finance the first-ever 'pink scholarships' for specialised oncology education and training.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025, the Carrera por la Vida Foundation has long been dedicated to supporting breast cancer initiatives.

The foundation, led by Brigitte Gypen, began as a solidarity walk in Santa Cruz after Gypen's own battle with breast cancer. Over the years, it has grown into Tenerife's most popular charity event, with over 7,000 participants in its latest edition.

This year's event, dubbed the "Pink Duck Race," will see participants 'adopt' pink rubber ducks for €5 each. These ducks will then compete in the Lazy River at Siam Park.

Each duck will have a unique number, and the person with the winning duck will receive a very special prize of a Golden Duck pendant, worth several thousand euros. The foundation is asking individuals, organisations, and businesses to join this unique race, which is the first of its kind in Spain.

Funds raised from the adoption of these pink ducks will support scholarships for university students and professionals to specialise in oncology-related fields such as psychology, physiotherapy, and nutrition. The goal is to enhance the care and quality of life for breast cancer patients by providing advanced training for those who support them.

The race is also intended to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer in both women and men. The foundation emphasises the critical role of self-examinations and regular mammograms in catching the disease early.

The Pink Duck Race is part of the wider Think Pink Europe network, which brings together European organisations working to improve the lives of those affected by breast cancer. The Carrera por la Vida Foundation is the only Spanish member of this network and has been instrumental in bringing this initiative to Tenerife after its success across Europe.

The public can adopt their pink ducks via the foundation’s website, carreraporlavida.org, up until the day of the race. The event will also be broadcast through various media outlets and social media platforms. Additionally, physical adoption points can be seen Siam Mall to make participation even more accessible.

With its blend of fun and philanthropy, the Pink Duck Race promises to make a significant impact on breast cancer support and education while offering a light hearted and community-driven event for all to enjoy.
