A DANA (Isolated High-Level Depression) in the Canary Islands will leave heavy rains this weekend throughout the archipelago. As forecast earlier in the week, the north of Tenerife suffered ‘substantial’ rainfall yesterday (Friday) and even some hail in the municipality of San Juan de la Rambla, as can be seen in a video posted on Twitter, recorded yesterday.
In addition, the Operational Coordination Center of the Santa Cruz City Council (CECOPAL) reported a large landslide in Casas de la Cumbre in Anaga, with the TF-12 road having to be closed. Several trees also fell over and affected power lines.
The more mountainous islands, including Tenerife, are only expected to be affected in the north, but storms are forecast today in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura where rain will be more intense. AEMET says that it will ease off later this afternoon and clear up tomorrow (Sunday) with just some light showers expected.
However, don’t expect a drop in temperatures, as even with this atmospheric phenomenon highs are forecast to rise slightly this weekend into the high 20s.
