The Canary Islands are facing the hottest day of the year today of 43°C

According to the latest forecasts from AEMET, temperatures will continue to rise today making it the hottest day of the year so far, and in this second heatwave of the summer.

Gran Canaria is expected to reach 43 degrees in the south, the west (inland), and in the Tejeda basin. The red level warning for extreme risk has been extended to the entire island, except for its northern slope, which remains at a yellow level.

Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and the Tenerife metropolitan area also rise in level compared to yesterday, and are now under an orange warning (high risk), with temperatures of 37 to 38 degrees forecast today, and are added to the south and west of Tenerife which are also in orange.

The high temperatures are also being accompanied by high-altitude haze and strong trade winds on the coast, where gusts could exceed 70 and 80 km/h in the usual areas of trade wind acceleration. The heat will begin to subside from the weekend.

HIGHEST TEMPERATURES:
Three towns in the south, east and west of Gran Canaria registered the highest temperatures in the Canary Islands yesterday. Las Tirajanas, in the municipality of San Bartolomé, and Agüimes recorded the highest temperatures of 41.5 degrees, while Tasarte (San Nicolás), registered 40 .7 degrees, and La Aldea de San Nicolás, 40.6 degrees.

In Tenerife, the Llano de Los Loros station, in Las Mercedes, registered 36.8°C, the AEMET station in El Paso (La Palma), and the one located in Cuevas del Pinar, in San Bartolomé, registered 36.5°C, while San Andrés (Valverde), the Telde Forestry Centre, and Adeje had highs of 35.5 degrees.

MORE THAN 30°C AT NIGHT:
In Gran Canaria, the thermometers did not drop below 30 degrees overnight in two towns in the south of the island: Lomo Pedro Afonso with 32.8°C and Cuevas del Pinar (30.4°C), both in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

The early morning lows have approached that same level in two other locations: Agüimes, in the southeast, where the temperature did not drop below 29.2 degrees, and Las Tirajanas, in the south, with 28.8 degrees.
