The Canary Islands are set to start the week with a noticeable rise in temperatures and periods of strong winds, particularly on the southeast and northwest slopes during the early morning and afternoon, according to the latest forecast from AEMET.
Today, Monday, the skies will be mostly cloudy across the northern parts of the more mountainous islands (Tenerife and Gran Canaria) and partly cloudy over the more easterly islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura).
However, conditions are expected to clear significantly as the day progresses, especially in the afternoon. Temperatures will generally rise, accompanied by moderate north-easterly winds, which may become strong in certain exposed areas.
Maritime Conditions
At sea, AEMET forecasts north to north-easterly winds reaching force 5 or 6, leading to rough or very rough seas. Along the southern and southwestern coasts, winds will vary between force 1 and 3, resulting in calm to moderate seas. A northern or north-westerly swell is also expected, with waves reaching heights of between 1 and 2 metres.
