Temperatures drop in the Canaries but now there are warnings for strong winds

This week has been the hottest of the year so far in the Canary Islands with the first heatwave of the summer giving some relentless temperatures of almost 40 degrees. However, the heat will give some respite from today as temperatures will drop, but there are now active weather warnings for strong winds.

Only one weather warning is still in force for high temperatures which is a yellow one in all areas of Gran Canaria except the south, with the emergency services still on pre-alert in the municipalities of Artenara, La Aldea de San Nicolás, Mogán, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Agüimes, Ingenio, and Telde.

Last night the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) issued warnings for strong winds with gusts of up to 75km/h expected in the islands of La Gomera, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote, as well as in the metropolitan area of ​​Tenerife, and in the southern slope of Gran Canaria, from 7:00am this morning (Friday) until further notice.

AEMET also warns of the risk of adverse coastal phenomena for Tenerife, El Hierro, and La Gomera from midday, to which we must add that these forecasts for strong winds and rough seas, will continue to be in force tomorrow for these three islands and Gran Canaria.

THURSDAYS TEMPERATURES:
Regarding yesterday's data, this time the highest temperatures officially recorded were in weather stations at the Doramas Forest (Telde) and Agüimes, both in Gran Canaria, with 37.3 and 37 degrees Celsius, respectively. The third and fourth places were in Tenerife, with 36.9 degrees in Santa Cruz, and 36.8 degrees recorded in the Anaga Massif.

To get an idea of ​​what yesterday was like, the lowest temperature recorded throughout the Canary Islands was 16.9 degrees recorded in Las Cañadas del Teide at 7:20am.

There were also the first signs of strong winds yesterday, with 55km/h recorded in Aldea de San Nicolás (Gran Canaria) where gusts reached 84km/h, which were among the highest in all of Spain.
