A teenager was seriously injured last night (Wednesday) after falling from a height of more than seven metres in the coastal area of El Cotillo, in the municipality of La Oliva, Fuerteventura.
The incident occurred at around 7:50pm when a passer-by alerted a Local Police patrol carrying out routine duties in the area. The caller reported that a minor had fallen in a spot known locally as “El Muellito”.
When officers arrived, they found the young man had fallen into a difficult-to-reach cliffside area and required urgent medical attention. In the initial response, help was provided by an off-duty doctor who lives locally, an off-duty municipal lifeguard, the attending police officers, and the local council’s emergency coordinator. Together, they managed to stabilise the injured teenager while awaiting further assistance.
Emergency services were immediately contacted via the 112 control centre, which dispatched a full response team. This included a medicalised ambulance from the Canary Islands Health Service, local firefighters, and a rescue helicopter.
After being assessed at the scene, the teenager was airlifted to Fuerteventura General Hospital for further examination and treatment.
Despite the severity of the fall and the challenging terrain, the young person remained conscious throughout and was transported in a stable condition, although reported to have sustained serious injuries.
