Residents and visitors can expect a largely cloudy start to Tuesday across the Canary Islands, particularly in northern areas, as the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) predicts extensive low cloud and strengthening trade winds across the archipelago.
Cloud cover is expected to dominate the north of the islands below around 900 metres, although clearer skies should develop in many areas as the day progresses.
At sea, northeast winds of force 4 to 5 are forecast, temporarily strengthening to force 6 in southeastern and northwestern coastal areas. Sea conditions will be rough, with moderate swells increasing to strong swells in exposed areas. Along western coasts, lighter and more variable winds are expected.
Full forecast for each of the islands on Tuesday 16th June 2026:
Tenerife
Northern Tenerife will remain cloudy below 1,100 to 1,300 metres for much of the morning, although sunny intervals are expected to develop throughout the day. The far northeast is likely to remain cloudier than the rest of the island.
Elsewhere, particularly across the south, including Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas, conditions will remain largely sunny and dry.
Moderate northeast winds will affect much of the island, becoming stronger at times in the northwest and southeast.
General temperature range: Low of 19°C and high of 28°C.
Gran Canaria
Cloud cover will affect northern parts of Gran Canaria below 1,000 to 1,200 metres during the morning, before brighter conditions develop through the middle of the day.
The south of the island, including Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico, will enjoy largely clear skies and sunshine throughout.
Moderate northeast winds will strengthen at times in western and southeastern areas, where occasional strong gusts are possible.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 26°C.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote will start the day under mostly cloudy skies, but conditions are expected to improve steadily from around midday.
Sunny spells will become increasingly widespread during the afternoon, making for pleasant conditions across the island, with moderate northeast winds throughout the day.
General temperature range: Low of 18°C and high of 26°C.
Fuerteventura
A cloudy start is also forecast for Fuerteventura, although skies will clear first in the south during the morning before sunshine spreads across the rest of the island.
Moderate northeast winds will persist, with stronger gusts possible around Jandía during the afternoon.
General temperature range: Low of 20°C and high of 26°C.
