The Guardia Civil has identified two people suspected of breaking into a home in Agüimes (Gran Canaria) in 2024, after tracing the IMEI number of a mobile phone stolen during the burglary.

According to the force, the pair were identified on 20th January 2026 during a routine security checkpoint, where officers stopped them in a stolen car fitted with fake number plates.

The original burglary took place on 26th October 2024 at a property on the Agüimes coast. The victim reported that the burglars entered the house while it was unlocked and empty, taking a high-end smartphone, a foreign passport, and €500 in cash.

At the police checkpoint, officers discovered that the vehicle the pair were driving had been stolen from a nearby town and that the number plates had also been stolen from another car in the same area.

A search of the car and the suspects’ belongings uncovered five mobile phones. Checks confirmed that one of them matched the IMEI number of the phone stolen in the 2024 burglary, directly linking them to the crime.

All case files have now been sent to the Instruction Section of the Court of Telde, and the suspects remain at the disposal of the judicial authorities awaiting trial.
