New drive-in movie theatre opens in the south of Tenerife

The first drive-in cinema in the Canary Islands opened last night at the entrance to Amarilla Golf in the south of Tenerife, with the first showing of the brand-new Batman movie.

This new facility, one of the largest in Spain, has a 200 square metre screen on a 16,000 square metre plot, with space for 650 cars catering for 2,000 people a night.

Capturing the essence of the 50s in a climate that is ideal for this type of venture, tickets are priced competitively from 6.50€ per person, plus a small fee for the car, where you pull in, park up, and do the rest from the comfort of your car.

There is also a restaurant on-site with a terrace, as well as a motorcycle area and a children's area so it is catering for all the family.

At the moment the movies are all in Spanish, but they have assured us that there will also be screenings in English in the future.

At the inauguration, the mayor of San Miguel, Arturo González, said "this new facility, one of the largest in Spain, which aspires to become a point of reference for Canarian culture and outdoor leisure, shows that San Miguel de Abona continues to encourage investment in the south of Tenerife, which, in turn, provides new jobs and local opportunities”.
