A 46-year-old woman has died after suffering catastrophic injuries in a motorcycle crash yesterday afternoon (Sunday) on the road to Pozo Negro, in the municipality of Antigua, Fuerteventura.
The alarm was raised at around 2:00 pm when witnesses reported that the rider had come off her bike on the Carretera a Pozo Negro. Emergency teams were sent immediately, but medics could only confirm her death on arrival due to the severity of her injuries.
The road was partially affected while authorities worked at the scene, and the cause of the crash is now under investigation.
In recent months, the Canary Islands have seen a number of serious motorcycle accidents. Late last year, a 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car on the TF-65 in San Miguel de Abona, Tenerife, a tragedy that came just a day after his partner died in a separate motorcycle crash.
Elsewhere, authorities have responded to a variety of collisions involving motorcycles, including crashes with cars on Tenerife’s TF-5 motorways that left riders with moderate injuries, and a reported collision near Lanzarote Airport that saw a motorcyclist taken to hospital. Even younger riders have been affected; on 8th February, two minors were injured in a motorcycle collision in the El Jablero area of Teguise, Lanzarote.
