A 62-year-old motorcyclist has died after losing control of his bike and leaving the road on the TF-1 motorway in Costa Adeje, south Tenerife, earlier this afternoon (Saturday).

The fatal accident happened at around 2:25pm near Junction 78 of the motorway in the northbound carriageway by Karting Las Americas, according to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES).

Off-duty firefighter began CPR

Emergency services were alerted after receiving reports that the rider had suffered a cardiac arrest following the crash.

Before paramedics arrived, an off-duty fireman who happened to be passing the accident stopped to help and immediately began basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), guided over the phone by staff from the Canary Islands Emergency Service.

Two SUC ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and paramedics continued advanced resuscitation efforts on arrival. However, despite their efforts, the rider had sustained multiple serious injuries in the crash and could not be revived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation underway

Guardia Civil officers attended the incident, managed traffic on the TF-1, which experienced delays in the northbound direction, and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Workers from the Tenerife Cabildo's Road Maintenance Service also secured the area, clean the carriageway and reopen the affected stretch of motorway.

The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed.
