A massage therapist in Gran Canaria is facing up to five years in prison after being accused of sexually abusing a client during a treatment session. The alleged incident took place at a clinic in Agüimes, with the trial scheduled for March 2027.
Prosecutors claim the man carried out non-consensual sexual acts during a massage in January 2022. They allege he touched the woman inappropriately and inserted his fingers into her intimate areas for several minutes while she was receiving treatment.
According to the prosecution, the woman did not consent and was left unable to react at the time. The following day, she confronted him via messages, to which he reportedly replied that he had “let himself go” but insisted he always separates professionalism from other behaviour.
The public prosecutor is seeking a five-year prison sentence. However, lawyers representing the victim are calling for a longer sentence of up to ten years, along with €25,000 in compensation for emotional harm.
They argue the accused took advantage of the woman’s relaxed and vulnerable state during the session. It is also claimed she later developed depression requiring ongoing medical and psychological treatment.
The case first came to light in 2022, when a restraining order was issued preventing the accused from approaching or contacting the woman. He must remain at least 500 metres away while the case continues.
He denies the allegations. Although he admitted carrying out the treatment, he says there was no inappropriate or sexual contact.
The case is due to be heard by the Provincial Court of Las Palmas on 3rd March 2027.
