The National Police have arrested a man in Gran Canaria on suspicion of offences linked to the prostitution and sexual exploitation of a minor, following an investigation led by the Family and Women’s Protection Unit (UFAM) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The investigation began towards the end of last year after officers became aware of the situation of a 14-year-old girl who was under state protection and living in a residential care centre. According to police enquiries, the suspect allegedly made contact with the teenager through social media platforms and gradually gained her trust.
Investigators believe the man arranged a first face-to-face meeting with the girl at the beginning of 2026. During this initial encounter, police say sexual acts took place without the consent of the victim. Contact was then continued online, with the investigation indicating that up to six further meetings took place at the suspect’s home in Vecindario.
After gathering sufficient evidence, officers arrested the suspect on 15th January and requested authorisation to carry out a search of his home. During the operation, numerous electronic devices were seized, including a desktop computer, a laptop, four external hard drives, two tablets and two mobile phones, all of which are now being analysed in detail to fully clarify the events.
Following his appearance before the courts, the judicial authority ordered that he be remanded in custody. The investigation remains open to determine whether there may be additional victims and to establish whether the arrested man could be linked to other similar offences.
