A Jet2 passenger plane was evacuated at Tenerife South Airport today after a passenger reportedly made a bomb threat, triggering a precautionary security operation.

The aircraft was due to fly from Tenerife South to London Stansted, with passengers ordered to leave the plane while the Guardia Civil carried out security checks. The scheduled Jet2 service to Stansted at the time was flight LS1536, due to depart at 11:20am.

According to information provided by Guardia Civil, the evacuation was carried out as a precaution so officers could determine whether the threat was genuine or a false alarm.

The aircraft and passengers' luggage were checked as part of the security operation, while those travelling on the flight waited to find out whether they would be able to continue their journey.

After the checks were completed, passengers were allowed to re-board the aircraft, and the Jet2 service was able to continue to London Stansted.

The incident resulted in a delay of around two and a half hours, with the aircraft eventually leaving Tenerife South at approximately 1:45pm.

Jet2 confirmed that passengers had been asked to leave the aircraft following an incident involving a passenger on board and apologised to customers for the resulting disruption.

The airline said its teams had worked closely with the relevant authorities before passengers were permitted to return to the aircraft.

The incident also caused some temporary disruption to airport operations while the security checks were taking place.

No explosive device has been reported as having been discovered, and the fact that passengers were subsequently allowed back onto the aircraft indicates the security operation was completed sufficiently for the flight to continue. Authorities have not yet released further details about the passenger who allegedly made the threat or confirmed whether any action has been taken against them.
