A 70-year-old woman had to be rescued by helicopter on Saturday lunchtime (20th September) after suffering breathing difficulties while walking along a difficult-to-access trail near Ajuy, in the municipality of Pájara in Fuerteventura.

According to the regional emergency services (112 Canarias), the woman was unable to continue her hike due to respiratory problems. Pájara firefighters and Local Police officers provided initial assistance on the ground.

An emergency and rescue helicopter (GES) was deployed to airlift her from the remote location. She was flown to an area near Fuerteventura General Hospital, where SUC medics took over.

She was then transferred by a fully equipped ambulance to the hospital for further treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the coordinated effort between local and regional emergency teams was essential in ensuring the woman received rapid medical attention.
