Fuerteventura is moving closer to adding an exciting new attraction for visitors and residents, a state-of-the-art wave pool that will form part of the proposed Wave Park Resort, a large-scale tourism and leisure complex planned for Corralejo, near the Geafont area on the edge of the Dunas de Corralejo Natural Park.

The ambitious project aims to combine sport, tourism, and sustainability in one location, positioning Fuerteventura as a pioneer in the growing world of artificial surfing.

The resort will feature a high-tech surf lagoon capable of producing consistent, controlled waves suitable for both beginners and advanced surfers, creating an all-year-round surf experience regardless of sea conditions.

In addition to the wave pool, the park will include accommodation, leisure facilities, and green spaces, designed to attract a wide range of visitors, from water sports enthusiasts to families seeking a unique holiday experience in the Canary Islands.

According to reports from Economía Digital, the initiative is being led by Wave Park Resort S.L., a company based in La Oliva and established in 2024. The project lists Pablo Castellano, son of former Inditex vice president José María Castellano, as its representative. Castellano, who has a background in the energy and real estate sectors, has publicly highlighted the potential of surfing as both a cultural and economic driver for the island.

The company has already applied for the necessary permits from the island’s authorities and has acquired Grupo Fuertenorte, another La Oliva-based firm, to strengthen the project’s real estate and development arm.

If approved, Wave Park Resort would make Fuerteventura one of the first destinations in Europe to offer an artificial surf facility integrated within a tourism complex, combining sustainable design with a sport that’s deeply connected to the island’s identity and natural environment.

Local reaction has been mixed, with some welcoming the economic and recreational opportunities the project could bring, while others have raised questions about its environmental impact given its proximity to the protected dunes.
