The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a weather forecast for the Canary Islands, predicting a rainy Sunday for Tenerife and the western islands along with strong winds and minimal changes in temperatures. The most affected areas include La Palma and Tenerife, where wind speeds on high peaks could reach up to 100 km/h.
The winds are expected to blow from the southwest, occasionally becoming very strong, especially in mountainous areas. However, by the end of the day, the wind should start decreasing and shift to a north-westerly direction.
Sea Conditions:
Winds at sea will vary between light and moderate (force 1 to 3), with stronger north-westerly winds (force 4 to 6) expected later in the day. The seas will range from slight to rough, with swells of 1 to 2 metres with occasional rainfall.
Forecast for each of the Islands:
Lanzarote:
Cloudy intervals with light rain are expected in the second half of the day, with chances of showers. There will be blue skies but temperatures will slightly decrease, especially inland. The wind will pick up from the northwest during the central hours of the day.
Temperature Range: 19°C to 23°C
Fuerteventura:
Cloudy skies with a chance of light afternoon rain. Both minimum and maximum temperatures will experience slight to moderate decreases, particularly in the interior regions. Northwesterly winds will be stronger in the central part of the day.
Temperature Range: 21°C to 23°C
Gran Canaria:
Intermittent clouds, with heavier cloud cover expected in the east by midday, bringing light to moderate rain, possibly in the form of showers. The north will see lighter precipitation, with temperatures dropping slightly, particularly at higher altitudes. The north-westerly wind will strengthen on the southwestern and northeastern areas of the island.
Temperature Range: 22°C to 25°C
Tenerife:
Cloudy intervals with the east of the island seeing occasional showers. The northern areas may experience lighter rainfall. The south will have blue skies but will be windy. Temperatures will drop, particularly at higher altitudes and in inland areas. Strong winds will affect the west, with very strong gusts on the central summits during the early hours.
Temperature Range: 21°C to 25°C
AEMET advises the public to be cautious, especially in mountainous regions and areas prone to strong gusts. The weather conditions are expected to improve slightly towards the end of the day.
