The Canary Islands welcomed their first baby of 2025 within two hours of the clocks striking midnight on New Year’s Day. The milestone birth occurred at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC) in Tenerife, where a baby boy was born at 1:48am on January 1st.
The newborn weighed a healthy 4.375 kilograms, bringing joy to his family and the hospital staff.
Other islands in the archipelago also reported their first births of the year in the early hours of this morning, January 1st. Fuerteventura celebrated its first 2025 birth at 2:53am at the Hospital General de Fuerteventura, a baby boy weighing 3.085 kilograms.
Gran Canaria's first birth of the year took place at 3:20am in the Hospital Universitario Materno Infantil de Canarias. It was also a baby boy, completing a trio of boys born across the Canary Islands in the early hours of the new year.
No births were reported in the first hours of 2025 in other public hospitals across the islands. These New Year arrivals have marked a joyous beginning to 2025 for their families and communities.
