Fire destroys part of Papagayo Shopping Centre in Playa Blanca

A major fire broke out in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) at the Papagayo Shopping Centre in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, leaving one commercial premises completely destroyed and causing serious damage to a neighbouring business.

Emergency services were alerted at around 5:00am and quickly dispatched firefighters, Local Police officers and emergency response teams to the area.

When firefighters arrived, they found the premises already engulfed in flames. Crews quickly cut power to the area and worked to bring the blaze under control before it could spread further through the shopping centre.

After extinguishing the fire, emergency teams ventilated the building to clear thick smoke and intense heat from inside.

The business where the fire started was completely destroyed, while a neighbouring premises suffered extensive damage from the flames, heat and smoke.

Police secured the area and launched an investigation into the incident. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Although the blaze broke out before businesses opened for the day, it is expected to cause disruption while damage is assessed and clean-up work gets underway.

Residents and visitors planning to visit the Papagayo Shopping Centre are advised to check for any temporary restrictions or closures before travelling.
