A father and his young son were rescued from the sea at Melenara Beach in Telde, Gran Canaria, this morning (Thursday)  after both got into difficulty in the water.

According to the Telde Local Police, the incident happened when the father entered the sea to help his son, who was struggling. Both then needed assistance to make it safely back to shore.

Lifeguards from the Proactiva beach rescue service responded quickly after spotting the emergency and successfully brought the pair out of the water. Local Police officers also attended the area to assist.

Early reports indicate that neither suffered any serious injuries and the incident ended as a precaution rather than a major emergency.

After the rescue, the child was taken to the Maternal and Child University Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, while the father was transferred to the Insular University Hospital for medical assessment.
