Decathlon has confirmed it will open its first city store in Puerto del Rosario, which is an exciting addition to Fuerteventura’s retail offering. The new shop will be located inside the Las Rotondas Shopping Centre, with recruitment for staff already underway.

The opening follows reports earlier this year that the French sports retailer was planning to expand onto the island. The new store forms part of Decathlon’s acquisition of a large section of Intersport’s Spanish business after the company entered insolvency proceedings in 2025.

As part of the deal, Decathlon took over Intersport’s Canary Islands network, including 14 stores and one outlet in Tenerife, two existing stores in Fuerteventura, and another outlet in mainland Spain. The acquisition also secured the jobs of more than 100 employees, representing around half of Intersport’s workforce in Spain.

The new Puerto del Rosario store is due to open in August 2026.
