The day before the next review of the epidemiological report by the Governing Council, the latest data from the Ministry of Health shows a sharp drop in incidence rates, hospital admissions, and the R rate of contagion, even though there are 1,378 new cases and 8 deaths in the islands today.
Currently, there are 103,142 active cases in the archipelago with 603 Covid patients in wards and 90 in ICU. However, the 7-day incidence rate for the islands as a whole has now dropped to 392.15 with only La Palma and El Hierro above 500, which will both drop quickly as they have small populations. The key ones are that Tenerife and Lanzarote are both now below 300, and Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are now both around 450.
The best bit of news is that the R rate of contagion, which was at 1.74 just a few weeks ago, is now at 0.64 the lowest it has been since the start of the sixth wave. This means that the spread of the virus is more under control and that it now has a negative spread as it is below 1, i.e. the lower it is the better.
