Covid update: 5 to 11-year-olds start with second jab; 800,000 have had booster

The Canaries have finished a busy week with 1,136 new cases and 7 deaths reported by the Ministry of Health, with 1,251 people discharged meaning that active cases dropped by 122 to 105,420 with 505 people in hospital wards and 77 in ICU. Among the 7 people that died today were a 57 and 63-year-old, and the rest were aged between73 and 92. Six died in Tenerife and 1 in Gran Canaria.

The SCS has informed today that they have started administering the second Covid vaccine to 5-11 year olds, and so far 4,513 children (3.03%) have had their second dose. Also 802,814 people have now received their booster jab which are for everyone over 18 years old, and are administered five months after having been vaccinated with two doses of Pfizer or Moderna and three months if it was with Janssen or AstraZeneca.
