The latest data from the Ministry of Health reports 2,495 new cases in the Canary Islands in the last 24 hours, with 1,712 people discharged leaving 98,235 active cases with 622 people in hospital wards and 87 in ICU. They have also verified 14 more Covid deaths of nine men and four women, aged between 77 and 98 years, except for one who was 44-years-old.
Of the total deaths, six were recorded in Tenerife, five in Gran Canaria, two in La Palma (one of them pending validation), and one in Fuerteventura, and all had previous pathologies.
Even though the number of new cases is higher today as Mondays are a reflection of Sunday, there is still a downward trend as you can see in the graph below.
Regarding incidence rates, it is no surprise that the smaller islands have the highest rates, as they are calculated per 100,000 inhabitants and they have small populations, meaning that they can drop just as quickly as they have gone up. It is more important to monitor the rates of the four main islands, whose have continued to drop, and in fact, all four now have an IA7 less than 1,000 as you can see below.
The Ministry of Health has also informed that the SCS have started booster doses today to anyone aged between 18 and 39, i.e. born between 1982 and 2003, without an appointment.
To get yours, you must have had your first two doses, and if they were Pfizer or Moderna you must wait until five months from your last one to receive the booster dose.
