A couple and their baby were dramatically rescued from their home in Telde on Sunday night after being trapped and injured by their own dogs, who suddenly turned aggressive and prevented them from escaping.
According to local reports, the incident occurred at around 8:30 pm on a residential finca between Jerez and Las Huesas, forcing an urgent multi-agency operation involving Local Police, Gran Canaria’s Emergency Consortium, and medical teams from the SUC.
The family were unable to leave the property as the dogs repeatedly attacked, leaving both parents with painful, bloody bite wounds. With a baby just a few months old inside the house, the risk escalated quickly, and they barricaded themselves indoors while calling for help.
Local Police officers arrived first but were unable to reach the family safely due to the dogs’ ongoing aggression. Firefighters from the La Garita station then devised an alternative plan, entering the property through a neighbouring house to avoid direct contact with the animals. This manoeuvre allowed them to access the finca and carry out a fast evacuation, prioritising the baby’s safety.
Ambulances transported the family to the Hospital Universitario Insular de Gran Canaria, where they were treated for severe bite injuries. Their exact condition has not yet been confirmed.
Authorities have not released further information about the dogs or whether any additional action will be taken.
