The Ministry of Health have announced that there have been 70 new cases of coronavirus detected in the Canary Islands today, of which 40 were in Tenerife, 13 in Gran Canaria 9 in Fuerteventura, 5 in Lanzarote, 2 in La Palma, 1 in La Gomera, and none in El Hierro.
Yet again there were no Covid related deaths reported in the islands, confirming May ashaving the lowest number of fatalities since August last year.
As always at the weekend there are less discharges than midweek so active cases should greatly reduce in the next few days as we head to a possible announcement from the UK regarding travel.
Health workers and staff from all the hospitals in the Canary Islands have celebrated a special Canary Day this Sunday, with the hope that it will be the last under the coronavirus pandemic.
They have all worked tirelessly since the first case was discovered in La Gomera in January 2020, doctors, nurses and other non-health personnel who work in hospitals in the archipelago have shared this day with patients and families with the optimism of the progress of the vaccination plan.
Special menus have also been prepared for patients in all the Health Centres and hospitals across the archipelago.
