Calima to bring hazy skies across the Canary Islands this Saturday
Weather conditions across the Canary Islands today, Saturday, will be marked by the arrival of calima, leaving skies mostly clear with some clouds in northern areas, and a small chance of drizzle. Temperatures are expected to remain steady, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
In Tenerife and the western islands, temperatures will range from 19°C to 25°C, while in Gran Canaria and the eastern islands they will peak at 24°C. Winds will blow from the northeast, generally moderate but becoming strong in some areas.
At sea, northeast to easterly winds with force 3 to 5 are forecast, bringing choppy conditions in parts and a northerly or north-westerly swell of 1 to 2 metres.

Cloudier in the north and northeast early, afternoon and evening, with a low chance of light, occasional drizzle in mid-altitude areas. Clearer elsewhere. Light calima at high levels, more noticeable inland. Temperatures unchanged. Moderate northeasterly winds, stronger later in the southeast and northwest with possible very strong gusts. Breezes along the southwest coast. Light to moderate easterly winds at higher elevations.
Expected temperatures: Low of 19°C with high of 25°C.
GRAN CANARIA
Cloudier in the north at the start and end of the day with a slight chance of drizzle, especially in mid-altitude areas. Elsewhere, mostly clear. Calima overhead, thicker in mid-altitude regions. Temperatures steady. Moderate northeasterly winds, strengthening in the southeast and northwest later with possible very strong gusts. Breezes on southwest coasts. Light to moderate easterly winds on the higher peaks.
Expected temperatures: Low of 20°C with high of 22°C.
LANZAROTE
Mostly clear or sunny with light calima at higher levels. Little change in temperatures. Moderate northeasterly winds, increasing on the west side later.
Expected temperatures: Low of 16°C with high of 24°C.
FUERTEVENTURA
Mostly clear or sunny with light high-level calima. Temperatures stable. Moderate northeasterly winds, stronger at times on the west and northeast coasts.
Expected temperatures: Low of 18°C with high of 23°C.
