Calima, big waves, and winds up to 80 km/h this Sunday in the Canary Islands

Today, Sunday, promises a mix of weather in the Canary Islands, with generally clear skies with a touch of haze, particularly pronounced in the afternoon on the southern slopes of the eastern islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura).

Strong gusts of wind are also expected from the east-southeast, reaching up to 80 km/h in El Hierro, La Gomera, and the northern part of Tenerife.

A wind alert has been issued for El Hierro, La Gomera, and several municipalities in Tenerife which started at midnight last night, with gusts expected to reach up to 100 km/h.

As for temperatures, a drop in maximum temperatures is anticipated, with a moderate decrease in the more mountainous islands and a slight dip in the easternmost ones. Low temperatures will remain relatively stable or experience a slight decrease.

Easterly winds are forecasted to be moderate, with the likelihood of very strong gusts, especially during the day, on the summits, northeastern, and southern slopes of the mountainous islands. There is also a possibility of gusts in the interior and west of Fuerteventura until the early afternoon.

At sea, an east or southeast wind of force 4 to 6 in the north and south, and 3 to 5 in the east, is expected. The swell will rise to strong levels. Calima, mainly to the south of the islands, will be present.
