A sewage overflow has once again affected the Las Cucharas beach area in Costa Teguise, with foul-smelling wastewater flooding part of the seafront promenade early this morning.

According to a witness, the sewer system overflowed near the Las Cucharas Amphitheatre, sending wastewater pouring from a manhole and creating what was described as a “river” of sewage across the walkway.

The incident has also reportedly left nearby homes and businesses without running water, adding to the disruption in one of Lanzarote’s busiest tourist areas.

It is not the first time the sewer network has collapsed in this part of Costa Teguise, with previous incidents raising concerns about the condition of local infrastructure.

At the moment, it is unclear whether Teguise Town Hall will request water quality testing from Public Health authorities to determine if the beach remains safe for swimming. The cause of the latest overflow has also not yet been confirmed.

Teguise Council has stated that Canal Gestión, the company responsible for water services, has been informed of the fault and repair work is expected to begin as soon as possible.

Visitors and residents in the area are advised to avoid affected sections of the promenade until the situation is resolved, and to check for any updates regarding beach conditions.
