The lifeless body of a man was discovered on Sunday afternoon inside a vehicle that had plunged into a ravine in the municipality of El Pinar, on the island of El Hierro.

The discovery was made after a call was received by the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOPIN) of El Hierro, reporting a vehicle that had crashed into a ravine near the HI-400 road.

Emergency teams from the Cabildo Intervention Group were dispatched by CECOPIN to the location given, and upon reaching the vehicle, responders confirmed that the driver was dead.

A GES rescue helicopter was deployed to recover the body, and airlifted the deceased to the helipad in Frontera, where the remains were placed under the care of the judicial authorities.

The Guardia Civil also attended the scene and carried out the necessary investigations. Personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) were also involved in the emergency response operation.

The identity of the deceased and the cause of the accident have not yet been released, and an investigation is ongoing.
