Autism-friendly quiet space opens at Puerto del Carmen funfair

Dedicated support for autistic people has been introduced at the Puerto del Carmen funfair, helping visitors and their families enjoy the celebrations in a safer and more comfortable environment.

The initiative includes a staffed support point and a quiet space during the town’s annual summer festivities. It is being organised by Tías Council in partnership with a specialist local association and with the cooperation of funfair operators.

The facilities will next be available on 3rd August from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Trained professionals will provide information, guidance and personalised assistance, including therapeutic support when required.

A separate quiet area will also be provided at El Fondeadero. It will offer a calm environment for anyone who needs a break from noise, crowds or other sensory stimulation.

Tías Council said the scheme aims to remove barriers and make local celebrations more accessible and inclusive. Officials hope the additional support will make the funfair a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for autistic visitors and their families.

Visitors who may benefit from the service are advised to look for the designated support point at the fair or ask event staff for directions.
